Hand-Tied Extensions
Guys! I literally can’t express how much hand-tied extensions have changed my own personal hair game and the lives of my clients that wear them. I have fine (i.e. really skinny) natural hair and, for years, could never wear it long. It would either stop growing, break off, or just look bad. Over the years I’ve tried several different methods of hair extensions: clip-ins, tape-ins, and cold fusion for myself, and also offered them to my clients. While I always loved how full and long my hair looked with those types of extensions, I never loved actually wearing them. They were uncomfortable, always visible through my own hair, and sometimes I experienced tangling and damage to my natural hair.
EVERYTHING CHANGED FOR ME and my clients when I got certified in the Platform Hand-Tied Hair Extension method, followed by the Harper Ellis Concealed Bead Method. Hand-Tied Hair is the Gucci of the hair extension world. The method used to install hand-tied hair vs other extension methods is like the difference between driving a Toyota Camry or a Tesla.
I have transitioned 100% of my clientele from other methods like tape-ins to hand-tieds and the results speak for themselves. FAQs
How many rows do I need?
1 ROW will provide fullness and fill in your ends so your hair looks slightly longer.
If your natural hair is already close to the length of your hair goal and you want volume and fullness, then 1 row should be all that’s needed.
2 ROWS will add length and fullness. If there is extreme difference between the length of your natural hair and your hair goal, then you will need 2 rows or more in some cases.
During your consultation (either in person or via digital consultation) we will determine exactly how many rows you need based on your existing hair and your hair goal.
How are they installed?
The extensions are installed by creating a beaded row of your own natural hair, then sewing the hand-tied wefts onto that beaded row. I am certified in 3 different hand tied extension application methods, and will choose the method that is best suited for your natural density and desired outcome.
What does an installation appointment include?
At your installation appointment your natural hair and your hand-tied wefts will be colored according to the goals we discussed during your consultation. Your custom colored hand-tied wefts will then be installed, blended, and styled. We will also be taking before & after pics!
What is the maintenance like?
Maintenance appointments are needed every 6-10 weeks and cost $200 per row. During a maintenance or “move-up” appointment, I completely remove all wefts and old beads and stitching. Everything is then freshly beaded and stitched back into place. Please arrive at your move-up appointment with clean, dry hair. Blowouts and/or color are available at move-up appointments for an additional charge, and must be scheduled ahead of time.
How often do I have to buy new hair?
New hair should be purchased every 6-9 months
I have curly hair. Are there textures available that will match my natural curl pattern?
Yes! There are hand-tied wefts available in a range of curl patterns
What products can I use?
Hydration is KEY to keeping your extensions in tip top shape. You will need to invest in a sulphate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, and a hair serum or oil.
I USE and recommend the following products:
Tangle Teezer brush for detangling wet and dry hair
Kevin Murphy Balancing Shampoo (for oily scalps) or Kevin Murphy Hydrating Shampoo (for dry scalps)
Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque
Incommon Magic Myst Leave-In Spray
Kevin Murphy Young Again Oil
All Kevin Murphy products can be purchased through me - either at your installation appointment or via email / direct message. Incommon can be purchased HERE. Tangle Teezers can be purchased on Amazon.
DO NOT USE the following products on your extensions:
High alcohol content hairsprays
Shampoos containing any type of sulphate
Sea Salt texturizing sprays
Any type of volumizing product
Can I go swimming in the pool or the ocean with Hand Tied Extensions?
Chlorinated water and salt water will ruin your extensions! At the very least it will dry them out, at worst it can create matting, tangling, and breakage. If you swim or go to the beach, please take every precaution not to get your hair wet. If your extensions do get wet, thoroughly shampoo and use a deep conditioning hair mask as soon as possible.
Can I wear my hair up?
Yes! Ponytails, topknots, braids, half up / half down styles are all achievable with Hand-Tied Extensions!
